“The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860–1989” has opened at Guggenheim. The exhibition traces how Asian art, literature, and philosophy were transmitted and transformed within American cultural and intellectual currents, influencing the articulation of new visual and conceptual languages.
There are a few public programs associated with the exhibition. I am particularly interested in two lectures:
Feb 17, 6:30PM: Georgia O’Keeffe and Asia: Intuition, Awareness, and Experience by Barbara Buhler Lyne, who is the curator of Georgia O’Keeffe Museum.
Feb 24, 6:30PM: John La Farge and Japan by Christine Guth, Professor at Royal College of Art, London.
