Each Saturday Heather Coleman brings boxes of black and white snapshots, cameras, stereoview cards and other photos to Fort Greene for the Brooklyn Flea. She appreciated photos, mostly by notable photographers, at and early age and then started looking at and collecting amateur snapshots. It’s a hobby that found new appreciation a few years back when the Met exhibited a collection of snapshots. Coleman says everyone looks for and finds something different in old photos, some disconnected from both the identity of the subjects and the photographers. Personally, Coleman says she looks for the artistic value in a photo, while others look for the historical significance, or appreciate the photographic medium.
