Geo I caught a few hours of the Christie’s sale this morning and took a few screen shots. The first is of a work by John Sloan owned by the Delaware Art Museum that passed after receiving only a $6500 bid. The work had been estimated at $12,000 to $18,000. Next was a work by Ralph Blakelock titled Landscape at Moonlight which went beyond the estimated $12,000 to $18,000 to bring $22,000. Having that in your living room may be worth every penny, but still I expect to see it for a much higher asking price at a gallery in the near future. Finally, the Hosts of Faery by Arthur Davies brought $4,800, slightly less than the $4,000 to $6,000 estimate. Any thoughts on what’s going on in this painting? (click on the image to enlarge)
