The 2011 Theta Charity Antiques Show in Houston will have a special display of items from the Texas Governor’s Mansion. For the first time since the devastating fire in 2008, the mansion will release a collection of fine and decorative arts to display at this year’s show. Jane Karotkin, Texas Governor’s Mansion Curator/Administrator of Friends of the Governor’s Mansion, will speak to show guests on Thursday, November 17 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

When the Governor’s Mansion suffered a devastating fire in 2008 caused by arson, the house was empty due to a deferred maintenance project. Karotkin will give an update on the progress of the building restoration, exciting discoveries about some important objects in the collection, and an in-depth look at the wonderful things in the loan exhibition at the show. The loans include objects with special Houston connections and new acquisitions that will be added when the Mansion reopens in late spring 2012.

The show runs November 17-20 with reception and preview November 16.
