Pittsburgh Glass at the Met

Bakewell Pittsburgh Glass at the Met in New York

Sometimes it is incorrectly assumed that museums are filled only with very high-end items with very high price tags. Indeed, many of the items are in those categories. Especially in the decorative arts, museums also collect items to record the history of design and production.

While the collection of glass from Pittsburgh at the Metropolitan Museum of Art includes many rare items, also included and on prominent display are some items that were more common and are still able to be found in the marketplace at prices affordable to many beginning collectors. Glass is one of those often under-appreciated categories in today’s market.

Museums are a great place to learn about glass. In addition to the Met, check out the Corning Museum of Glass and the Dallas Museum of Art.
